MainStage 3 also features pickup modes that make fixed controller knobs behave more like the endless encoder knobs found on high-end gear. And down the road, if your hardware fails when you’re about to go on stage, it’s quick and easy to swap it out. No more assigning knobs over and over for each preset. Just assign a physical control to an onscreen control, and it’s connected forever (or until you change your mind). It can connect with just about any external MIDI device on the planet. MainStage supports your addiction to knobs, buttons, and faders. Whether you’re rounding out your sound with a simple stereo backing track or a set of separate, mixable stems, all you have to do is step on a foot switch to jump to the next marker, adjust the tempo, arrange on the fly, or fade out smoothly. With Playback, your Mac becomes a flexible, reliable backing track player. And the next you can be creating bass loops with an external synth against an Ultrabeat drum pattern. One minute you can be playing some heavily distorted guitar with a full backing band. Each Patch works as a self-contained audio mixer and router, so you can completely change direction mid-performance. That means everything you use to perform is right on your Mac, giving you total control. MainStage features ReWire and MIDI-out support. With just the controls you need onscreen for your song, you’ll never have to hunt for the right knob. And you can set things up so each control is linked to a different parameter in each Patch. You get a full-screen, high-contrast, and high-resolution (Retina display-supported) view of your controls, so they stand out from across the stage. The MainStage and Smart Controls interface is designed especially for live performance. Knobs, faders, and switches you can’t miss. And you can easily use your favorite hardware to control every nuance of your performance. With the Mac as the core of your live rig, setup is faster, teardown is faster, and everything in between is more reliable. You’ll also find new features like an improved Mixer, easier-to-use channel strips, and more. You can even expand your show with prerecorded backing tracks. Everything from the Sound Library and Smart Controls you're familiar with from Logic Pro X is integrated into MainStage 3. Love the sound you got on your recording? MainStage 3 makes it easy to bring all the same instruments and effects to the stage. This doesn't seem possible with Live Loops but as mentioned there may be some magic setting that changes the way the initial loop is captured. For your convenience only and we cannot guarantee When using a loop pedal in a live situation (say with a guitar) the one thing the performer does not know when they are capturing the loop is the tempo (I mean they might have a rough idea but certainly don't want to set up a metronome and listen to a click!) The performer is just playing a repeating phrase, at some point taps the loop pedal to start recording and then a bit later taps the pedal again to stop recording and the captured loop just plays back. I would like to use the Live Loops feature in the same way I would expect to use a loop pedal (like a Boss Loopstation or similar) - but it seems to be the one thing I can't make it do, and hopefully I'm missing something really obvious! (although a few YouTube tutorials on the subject also don't mention this).
